TSA Banned Items.

Keeping Up TSA Security Measures

Compliance to these new measures is not optional!

While aviation threat level remains at High the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has lower the code level down from RED to ORANGE effective immediately. The latest thwart of airline terrorism danger has set in motion a list of new rules and regulations from The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) which has us all scrambling to figure out. A brief overview of what travelers must know before heading out the door.

Liquids and Gels over 3 ounces, and Aerosols Banned:

AS OF SEPTEMBER 26TH 2006 - THE TSA HAS RELAXED IT'S RULES ON BANNED LIQUIDS.

RELAXED RULES:
  • Air passengers may now carry though airport security Travel Size Toiletries (3 ounces or less) and these items must be placed and fit (without crowding) into a QUART zip-closing plastic see-through bag. ONLY ONE QUART zip-close plastic see-through bag is allowed per passenger. Travelers will be asked to remove the zipped closed bag containing toiletries and place in a separate bin to be examined and X-rayed by security personnel.
  • TSA Rules Relaxed
  • Travelers are now allowed to bring aboard beverages and other food items as long as these items have been purchased in a secure boarding area after security screening.
  • All other regulations regarding liquids, aerosols, and gels remain in effect and are not likely to change anytime soon.

Please be sure to check the TSA website. for the latest updates and changes.

Immediately upon discovery of the latest plot to threaten air passengers a ban of all liquids, gels and aerosols from carry-on luggage went into effect. In the weeks since first being notified of this ban the TSA has provided very clear instructions as to what is allowed and prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage. For the most current (long and detailed) list see Permitted and Prohibited Items. This list addresses prescription and non-prescription liquid medicines, food and beverage items, cosmetics and toiletries, as well as electronic devices, sharp objects and sporting goods, etc. Up-to-date information can always be obtained at the TSA website. We advise checking the TSA site before packing for your air, rail and ocean travel.

Lighters Prohibited on Person and Carry-On.

Passengers are also instructed that they may not bring lighters (fueled or without fuel) on persons or in carry-on luggage. Such devices will be confiscated at the security checkpoints. Passengers may pack in the checked bags up to 2 fueled Zippo lighters provided they are secured in an DOT approved case. Strike any-where matches are banned altogether, however safety book matches are allowed both on person and in carry-on luggage (limited to four books).

You ARE REQUIRED to REMOVE your SHOES.

You will not be allowed to board the plane should you protest the mandatory removal of all footwear. All passengers (including children) are required to take off ALL footwear (disposable socks or slippers may be worn through the checkpoint but must be disposed of prior to leaving the screening area. Shoes must be placed in a bin and placed on the X-ray machine to be screened. GEL SHOE INSERTS are not allowed, however, shoes with GEL heels are allowed but as all shoes must be removed and screened.

Dress For Travel Means Avoiding Certain Items.

Avoid wearing clothing, accessories or jewelry that contain metal. Clothing with heavy metal belts, buttons, buckles, and under-wire bras will set off security alarms and will subject those wearers to undergo additional screening measures (which may include body pat-downs and hand-wanding of the torso). Persons with hidden body piercing's may be directed for additional screening measures as well. You will be required to remove and have X-rayed all coats, jackets (suit, sport coats and blazers included) and heavy outerwear. Avoid waiting for the last minute to remove clothing and shoes. Remove all items from pockets and have ready plastic zip close bags to stash all on person valuables including, keys, change, phones, and PDA's, etc.
