A short submission from Nancy S. of Spokane, Washington is an inspiration to all who want to travel, but 'don't have the time or money'. Nancy and her husband just did it - they quit their jobs, packed their bags, and hit the road. Read on for some great ideas.

Time Out For Travel

Submitted by Nancy S., Spokane, Washington

My husband and I decided to quit working for a couple of years and travel. I wished we had put more emphasis on travel when our children were still living at home, but hindsight is always 20-20. My advice is do it now, travel is not as expensive as we always felt it was and the benefits of meeting people and touring museums and seeing sights is well worth giving up a few family nights out at a restaurant or seeing movies or buying that new bike when the old one still works.

As far as travel tips, we have found that when we first visit a new city we take a greyline city tour, that helps us orientate the city and helps us plan where we want to spend more time. The next day we will take a city trolley that has major stops that you can get on and off, a great way to get to attractions that aren't walking distance from each other. Because we never drive in a strange city (how can you see the sights with your head in a map?) we do end up taking all kinds of tours and I always leave the hotel with a few $5 and $1s in my jacket pocket so I can easily tip drivers without opening and digging thru my purse (no need to become a target). Anyway next month we leave for Europe and are really excited about new adventures and hopefully we won't need our new umbrellas but we will be ready.
