SAVAHHAH - Continued, A TRIP BACK IN TIME

Submitted by Bobbie J. from Yspilanti, Michigan

If beauty and history appeals to you I invite you to take a trip to historical Savannah. Savannah moves at a much slower pace and is not like the traditional student getaways. However, Savannah's charm is its down home southern draw, but don't be fooled Savannah has something for everyone. I had the joyous experience of visiting Savannah not too long ago and it took my breath away. I was impressed by the history this town possessed. Its downtown area, practically 85% restored. Restoration and revitalization is a common theme in Savannah and projects to keep the town beautiful have worked.

Savannah is also known for its beautiful parks. If you ever got a chance to see the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", you remember the opening shot. Well, the movie does not do this place justice. Forsyth Park and others are spring time lush with splendid greenery. Flowers are blooming and the birds will sing you a song. I found it hard to pay attention to where I was walking surrounded by all this comforting beauty.

Savannah has every price range covered from top to bottom. If one wanted to move in the circles of the rich and powerful, Savannah offers as much, but if you just want to relax and mingle with everyday folk you would feel right at home in Savannah. For anyone on a budget, Savannah is idea. Adorned with history, grace and laid back quintessential charm. The city of Savannah is laid out like a buffet for the taking.

Historical (Home) Tours, for no more than $25.00 per person that can enrich a students mind and start a long time love affair with this gorgeous city. You will discover the architectural grace of century old homes. Sink into the comfort of their simplicity and marvel at their opulence.

Locating a place to stay while in Savannah can be an easy find as well. I chose to stay at the wonderfully spacious Days Inn Suites, located right downtown. This hotel was centrally located near everything. As a matter of fact, the biggest star to emerge from the movie, Midnight in the garden of good and evil was the Lady Chablis and the club she performed at, Club One was located right across the street from the hotel. I thought this was amazing, I could not have been more centrally located. The price was only $77.00 per night for a suite, on special.

Located right behind my hotel was what I called "another world". The historical River Street with its English styled pubs, quaint shops and cobbled stoned streets, which sits back off the Savannah River. This was something out of the 18th century and my eyes couldn't believe such history at such a value.

I definitely enjoyed my stay in Savannah and plan to go back again soon. Its charm, its beauty and its history, all the things I love about Savannah. If you need an escape from the same old, same old try a visit to the place that gave the phrase "down home southern charm" its meaning, Savannah, you won't be disappointed. Prices quoted subject to author's experience and are subject to change.
