What's New About Us Packing List

Car Surrival Kit
Equip your Vehicles with a
WINTER SURVIVAL EMERGENCY KIT.

The national coverage of tragic events of Kim family who become car-stranded in Oregon in the winter of 2006 has made us all too aware that hazardous driving conditions can overtake us when we least expect it. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kim family and the brave men and women who helped in their rescue efforts.

For years we at Christine Columbus have offered tips and guidelines to travelers, whether that travel was by land, sea or air. Please take a moment to review our car safety checklist - this list is meant as a guideline, we suggest that you review it and adjust it for the season's driving conditions in your area.

Winter weather survival stories abound, but after reading where a man in West Virginia was trapped in his car for 6 days after plunging 150 feet off the road into a snowy ravine has moved me to put together a emergency survival kit for my automobiles. It's just plain smart to have some emergency supplies in your car in case of a mishap.

I've compiled a list of basic essentials that all of us should have on hand in each of our vehicles, regardless of the traveling and/or road conditions. The West Virginia survivor kept from starving to death by eating packets of taco sauce left in his car from fast food drive thru's - while I could most likely live for months off the hordes of Halloween candy I have stashed in my glove box, I think I prefer to be a little more prepared.

The key to having a survival kit is to have it within reach. You must be able to access your survival kit from inside your car. Incidents of persons being trapped in their car are rare, stranded snowbound motorists are more common. Thus having the proper safety gear can make all the difference in how you deal with a calamity.

Basic as they may seem - putting a kit together of these items may aid you in most any road emergency. Stow your gear all together in our Auto Organizer - be sure to keep important things within easy reach.
